I’m a writer. So tend to think that if you want to get a real sense of who I am, you should see and read everything RR. Which is why I created this site. So you can read my blog, my twitterfeed, my LinkedIn profile and see my videos, my photostream and some of my portfolio. Certain folks, however, just want the juiciest bits — my best work in concentrated form. This link is for you.

TV is not dead. Commercials are still being produced. But the majority of the broadcast work I do these days is for “the small screen”. Below, you’ll find some examples of video work I’ve done. To see all of my work-related videos, please check out my channel on vimeo.

Pro bono

// December 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // Portfolio

I’ve made a career out of convincing people to buy things they don’t necessarily need. To atone for my sins, I do pro bono work whenever I can. Not sure I’ve balanced the scales. But I’m doing what I can. Here’s a series of posters I did for Take Your Children To Work Day. In addition to creating these posters, my art director partner and I also hosted a day long program for all the kids who came to work that day. It included lots of washable paints and a video shoot. Other pro bono efforts I’ve been involved with include Heal the Bay, FDNH, San Francisco Blood Drive, and a PSA for the Earth Communications Office.

HBO Dreamfight

This Facebook app, which I wrote for HBO, lets you get in the ring and kick your friends’ ass. It generated interest among younger sports fans, resulting in more than 1 million social media impressions (whatever that means).

“Don’t Judge” Campaign

I wrote these print ads for Ameriquest’s “Don’t Judge Too Quickly” campaign. I also wrote a commercial called “Friendly Skies”, which aired during Super Bowl XL. The spot was named one of USA Today’s Top Ten and was the #1 Tivoed Super Bowl XL spot.

So many websites, so little time

Here are a few of the websites I’ve worked on over the years. For Saturn — the first car site where you could actually fill out a loan application to buy your car. For Peets Coffee — their first website ever. For egreetings — an online greeting card company that sold to American Greetings. For the EV1, the first electric car ever produced in the USA. For Novell — the kings of Linux.

For almost 10 years, I worked on the west coast at RPA, Team One, Saatchi, Riney, TBWA/Chiat, etc. Thus, it comes as no surprise that I’ve written and creative directed more than my share of car brochures and collateral of all shapes and sizes for Lexus, Infiniti, Honda, Saturn, Hyundai, Kia, GMC, and for the first ever American electric car, the ill-fated GM EV1.

Drek and e-Drek

// December 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // Portfolio

Direct mail is considered to be “drek” or “junk” whether it’s jammed into a real world mailbox or an inbox — by those who receive it and those who send it. Thus, the bar is often set quite low, from a creative standpoint. Personally, I believe that anything you can see, hear, or touch should elicit a smile or provoke some thought. Below are some examples of what I like to think of as anti-drek.
